Per capita income is the average amount of money
earned per person. It is often used to gauge the standard
of living of people who live in a given area or who
are members of a certain group.
The geographic pattern of per capita income can
most easily be understood by creating a map. This
map shows the per capita income for counties in West
Virginia. It is one of a large number of interesting
maps that can be found in the West
Virginia Health Status Atlas, a website maintained
by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human
Resources.
