NAHC Tests Custom Topo Maps
The North American Hunting Club has given "Field Test Approved" status to MyTopo.com. NAHC field testers had the opportunity to order and field test custom printed maps and aerial photos from MyTopo.com and over 95% of the testers were pleased with the service.  Check out MyTopo.com

Pareechu River, Tibet Landslide
A large landslide in Tibet early this summer blocked the flow of the Pareechu River, forming a natural dam that will soon be overtopped. The overtopping and/or failure of this dam will likely flood communities downstream in northern India.   Read more at Pareechu River, Tibet Landslide

Hurricane Frances Satellite Image
Earth Observatory is posting satellite images of Hurricane Frances. This satellite image shows Hurricane Frances approaching the Caribbean and remnants of Tropical Storm Gaston over the Atlantic Ocean south of Long Island.  More info and images at Hurricane Frances Satellite Image

Washington Coast Map
This isn't a map either, it's another digital elevation model image of the State of Washington Coastline, also showing a few of the Cascades volcanoes. Africa Elevation Map

Vanishing Farmland Maps
The California Department of Conservation has prepared some excellent animated maps that show how urbanization is dramatically reducing the amount of farmland in several areas of California.
