GPS use in Farming
A large number of farmers are now using GPS to guide their tractors. The tractors are programmed to follow a specific coordinate track for tilling, planting, spraying and harvesting - and a computer/GPS system keeps it on course with great precision. HeatMaps - Eye Activity on a Webpage
I normally report on "geographic" maps, however, I came across a very interesting type of map related to websites - a heatmap that shows the cumulative visitor eye activity on a homepage. Tracking Suspected Criminals With GPS Challenged
Police in Germany hid a GPS transmitter in the car of a suspected criminal to track his movement. The defense protested that such tracking was in violation of his person rights but a conviction was obtained. The case will now be heard by Germany's Constitutional Court. Tracking Rental Cars with GPS
A San Francisco rental car franchise is in hot water with the state because they installed GPS tracking on rental cars and poorly informed customers that they were being monitored. The company was slapping customers with hefty surcharges if their GPS log showed instances of speeding or driving the rental car across state lines. School Bus GPS System Makes Drivers Angry

GPS Cell Phone Betrays Crank Caller
A fourteen year old student was making one crank call after another to a Tennessee 911 service. Unfortunately for him he was on a school bus and the dispatcher saw the moving location of the calls and heard the sound of children in the background. He was quickly apprehended. GPS and City Buses
The city of Edinburgh, Scotland has installed a "Bustracker" system on their city buses. Previously plagued with assults and other crimes the buses are now equipped with "panic buttons" which can be pushed to summon police. GPS technology is incorporated into the system and the location of the bus is also related to police. An additional benefit of the system is that the GPS equipped bus now transmits a signal to bus stops on its route, giving an estimated time of arrival. Read more at GPS and City Buses
